To celebrate the first anniversary of the Ruparelia Foundation, the board of trustees charged the staff to identify an urgent need that fitted the mandate of Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia’s vision of contributing to sustainable development, and for which a well-timed infusion of the Foundation’s resources would make a significant impact.
The health sector was singled out as the most critical and the Foundation has since then contributed to numerous healthcare undertakings. These vary from supporting cancer research, contributing to the medical assistance of cancer patients, funding the procurement of intensive care machinery for Nakasero Hospital Limited, contributing to the supply snacks to needy child patients at Mulago Hospital through Save the Child Organisation and contributing towards the medical bills of patients, chiefly those with cancer.
In addition, the Foundation has made contributions to the BanyaKigezi’s internal community for primary health, maternal and child healthcare, accorded financial assistance towards the National Health Hotline Services under the Community for Development Uganda, was part of the fundraising for the awareness campaign and screening of breast cancer patients (Grantee: Sheraton Hotel Kampala), facilitated the construction of a charity hospital (Grantee: Uganda Social Education Welfare Association) and supported orphaned children and vulnerable children living with HIV/AIDS in Kaabong, Karamoja district.
Additionally, Dr. Sudhir’s lifelong dream is to open a hospital that will extend sufficient healthcare to the Ugandan community and also supplement the strained healthcare system in the country.
